The Bishop Foley Dance Company is open to any student interested in dance. No experience is necessary and all levels of dancers are welcome. The principle of the dance company is to give all students interested, an opportunity to participate in a free dance program. Many different styles of dance are incorporated in the company. Ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical and musical theatre have been introduced in the past with student input helping to decide which styles will be used in performances. The dance company performs at the Christmas concert and the spring concert along with the choir. Students are not obligated to perform, but encouraged. The dance company’s intent is to help students gain confidence, to give them a chance to learn more about different styles of dance, to give the more experienced dancers a chance to choreograph if they desire and to increase the students’ awareness of self and the space around them. It is an opportunity for the students to make friends, to develop team working skills, to grow in self awareness and to gain a better understanding of the art form of dance.
