Students will learn how to take photographs that make a statement and to look at the world from an artist’s point of view. Students will study the elements of art and their application to photography, the importance of negative and positive space, and the use of light and shadow. Students will also become knowledgeable about the history of photography and several important photographers. The class meets independently after school with the instructor throughout the school year on a monthly basis. (Schedule of classes is determined at the first meeting.) In addition to the photography assignments, students will have opportunities to learn from guest speakers and take field trips to area galleries. Students must provide their own camera. Digital cameras are allowed, but only hard copies of the photographs are accepted for assignments. Students earn a ? credit at the end of the second semester.
