Sports Announcements for Monday, September 25th
Girls Varsity Volleyball traveled to Muskegon this past Saturday for the Muskegon Catholic Central Invitational. The team brought home the first place hardware as they defeated West Michigan Christian in the finals. The team is back home this Thursday as they have a crucial league match-up with Lutheran North.
Cross Country traveled to Anchor Bay on Friday for an invitational. The boys were led by Jack Decker and Billy Tiller while Owen Munk, Jacob Rusch, Anthony Marcopoli, Mitch Mandziuk, and DJ Imrick continue to make great strides. Mary Ryan Penningotn and Lauren Kowal were the top finishers for the girls. The team is back to action on Tuesday as they travel to Hudson Mills for their second of three league jamborees.
Football traveled to the school west of Woodward on Friday. The Ventures scored first as Benji Alderson raced 20 yards on the quarterback keeper for the touchdown and the early lead. Later in the half, John Stickney broke a tackle and scored from 27 yards out on a pass from Alderson to put the team up 14-7 at half. Down 21 with about 8 minutes left in the 4th, Sam Siepker started what will go down as one of the greatest comebacks in Foley football history as he answered the Knights score with an 80 yard kickoff return. The game was 35-21 at that point. Cooper Harbowy recovered a crucial fumble as the Knights were driving in Venture territory to get the ball back. Two long runs by Kendel Taylor set up the Ventures at the Knights 3 yard line. Alderson then found Siepker in the back of the end zone to make it 35-28. The defense led by Daniel Grembi, Franklin Lama, Griffin Connert, Cam Cope, Braden Mussat and Tim Zoski who had 18 tackles stepped up to the plate and stopped the Knights. Cam Cope returned the punt to the Knights 42 yard line and the Ventures were down 7 with the ball and just over 4 minutes left in the game. Kendel Taylor burst off the right side and found enough space as he scampered 42 yards for a touchdown. Joey Laino calmly stepped in and kicked his 5th extra point of the game. The defense held serve and pushed the game to overtime. The Knights had first crack at the end zone but the defense would not let them see it and they had to settle for a field goal. One play later Kendel Taylor burst up the middle for a 10 yard touchdown and completed the epic comeback for Coach Barnes and the Ventures as the fans rushed the field.
