Performing Arts

Performing Arts

At Bishop Foley Catholic, we are pleased to offer multiple outlets for the performing arts.

Drama Ensemble

Bishop Foley Catholic High School has a highly recognized drama program. We are one of the few Catholic schools to put on four plays a year. Our Drama Ensemble puts on a Fall Play, One Act Play, Spring Musical, and Student Run Production throughout the school year. Our Drama Ensemble moderator, along with director for our plays is Mrs. Mimi Lewalski. She can be reached at lewalski@bishopfoley.org

Drama at Bishop Foley Catholic is part of the curriculum as well as an after school club.  Drama I and Drama II are offered as electives. Drama I presents theatre history, introduction to technical theatre, scene development and presentation, and improvisation. Drama II goes further in depth in the same areas and also covers script analysis and directing.

The after school Drama club is an opportunity for any student interested in theatre to have a chance to perform, work backstage or just be part of a club! The Bishop Foley Drama Ensemble presents four productions a year. The fall play, which takes place in November, alternates between a comedy and drama each year so that students can get  different experiences in play styles.  Also taking place in the fall is a one act play production. In March, we present our Musical, which is followed by our student run play.  There are plenty of opportunities to be a part of a production even if a student plays sports.  A varsity letter can be earned in Drama by accumulating enough points through club participation and being a part of any or all of the plays presented each year.

Upcoming Productions:
30 Plays in 60 Minutes - October 6, 2016
Macbeth (with a twist) - November 11 & 12, 2016
The Wizard of Oz - March 10 & 11, 2017

Choir & Band

We have recently begun building our Choir and Band programs, led by Mr. Joe Marino. He can be reached at marino@bishopfoley.org. Our programs include a Music Ministry group, which sings at our All School Mass every Tuesday, Choir, and a Drum Line that performs at football games in the fall.

The band program provides a comprehensive musical experience for its students. Bishop Foley Catholic offers a Choir class and Band class that students can take as an elective. In addition, Mr. Marino works with his Music Ministry, Choir, and Band groups after school for students who want to participate more fully in our music program.

Each year, the students perform at football games and pep assemblies, our annual Christmas Cookie Walk, and our Spring Musical. We also have a Christmas Concert and Spring Concert every year for our Choir and Band students to show off their talents.

Extracurricular Activities

Not only does Bishop Foley Catholic offer several classes for Performing Arts, but we also have multiple after school clubs that students can join! Students of all skill levels can join these different clubs and activities.

Choir Club
This club is open to singers of all voice types (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone/bass).  We rehearse and perform all kinds of music, ranging from Disney, pop, Broadway, sacred, and secular pieces for seasonal concerts (Christmas/Spring) and other special events at school or in the community.  There are no auditions, and we take singers of all abilities.  Even if you’ve never been in a Choir before, come join this fun group!  We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Band Club

This club is designed for instrumentalists (woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion) who would like to perform for seasonal concerts and special events but cannot take the 7th Hour class--though many students from the 7th Hour class will often stay and join the rehearsal for extra practice.  During the Fall Season, if possible, we primarily rehearse and perform pep-band music for pep-rallies, football games, and other sporting events.  At the end of the football season, the focus then shifts to preparing music for the Christmas and Spring Concerts.  Students in this club should be able to play their instruments at a competent level, and it is encouraged that students take private instruction to improve their skills throughout the year.  Band Club meetings take place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Music Ministry Club
Music Ministry is a group of students and staff members that perform the music at Bishop Foley’s all-school Masses, as well as participate in K-12 Masses at Guardian Angels, and other church activities.  This club is open to singers and instrumentalists (guitar, bass, drums).  You do not need to be a part of the Choir or Band in order to join this club.  We will meet on Mondays from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.

*Even if you are involved with sports or other clubs, the music clubs work with other clubs and sports to ensure sure that you can do more than just one activity!*

If you have any questions about our music clubs, please contact Mr. Marino at marino@bishopfoley.org.

Drama: This is an incredibly fun way to meet others interested in drama!  The club meets monthly to discuss different aspects of theatre.  We cover a wide range of topics such as history, makeup, components of the performance, design and production.

Dance Company: The Bishop Foley Dance Company is open to any student interested in dance.  No experience is necessary and all levels of dancers are welcome.  The dance company’s intent is to help students gain confidence, to give them a chance to learn more about different styles of dance, to give the more experienced dancers a chance to choreograph if they desire and to increase the students’ awareness of self and space around them.
