Forensics
Forensics students continue to build their self-confidence and poise when speaking in front of an audience, large or small. This activity focuses on students having a creative outlet for their speaking talents. All students are welcome to participate, starting at any grade level.
There are a total of 6 categories to choose from: Oral Interpretation of Literature, Dramatic Duo, Dramatic Presentation, Oration, Declamation (for 9th and 10th graders only) and Extemporaneous Speaking. The first three categories are considered interpretation and the other three public address categories. Students meet with their coach to discuss which category allows for them to best demonstrate their speaking skills.
Students usually select/write their pieces in November, memorize them in December and practice speaking/blocking in January, as competition begins in the latter half of the month.
Forensics students do have the opportunity to be involved in other school activities/teams, such as robotics and the spring musical. Bishop Foley recognizes Forensics as a team. Students who join our team and actively compete can earn their varsity letter in Forensics.
