May Alumni Spotlight: Michael Ruzycki '91
Business Owner, Proud Father, True Foley Venture
Foley, Faith & Friendships
Spring brings new beginnings—and this month, it also brings us our May Alumni Spotlight: Michael Ruzycki, Class of 1991. A successful business owner and proud Foley father, Michael credits Bishop Foley Catholic for shaping his life through faith, lifelong friendships, and foundational values.
Reflecting on his time at Foley in the late '80s and early '90s, Michael shares, "Foley’s strong focus on faith helped guide me through every chapter of my life." And like many Foley alumni, he built friendships that lasted forever. That sense of connection? It’s the heart of what makes the Foley Family so special.
Entrepreneurial Spirit Starts Early
Today, Michael owns Green Lantern Pizza in Bloomfield and runs a thriving promotional products website, but his entrepreneurial journey started at Foley.
"I spent so much time at BFHS that they gave me a job pulling out the bleachers for events—back before they were electric!" Michael says. That experience helped ignite a work ethic that would follow him for decades.
At Foley, we pride ourselves on recognizing the unique interests and talents of every student—whether it's robotics, drama, forensics, or art. Just like Michael, our Ventures are encouraged to explore their passions and discover what drives them.
The Power of Public Speaking
Michael still carries with him the lessons learned in class, especially from public speaking teacher Mrs. Zappa. "Mrs. Zappa, the public speaking teacher, was hard on us but in a good way. Her insights on teaching public speaking helped me to get where I am today,” he says, “Everyone always says, ‘How do you know so many people?’ and all I can think about is that Mrs. Zappa made me learn to speak to anyone at any time no matter the situation.”
Our educators at Foley do more than teach—they believe in every student’s potential and go the extra mile to help them thrive.
Words of Wisdom: Be Bold, Be Curious
To our current and future students, Michael shares this advice:
"Learn AI. Take chances. Make it a point to meet someone everywhere you go. The person you think is just average might be the one running a company someday."
His message is clear—stay open, stay curious, and always believe in the unexpected paths life can take.
A Lasting Legacy
Michael and his wife Sarah are proud Foley parents. Their daughter Lilly is graduating with the Class of 2025 and will be attending the University of Mississippi, and their son Michael will be entering his junior year this fall. Their continued involvement in the BFC community is a testament to the lasting impact of the Foley experience.
